Graydon's survey: bankruptcy figures Europe

The yearly survey conducted by Graydon's study centre has revealed some interesting facts about bankruptcy numbers in 2007.

  • Bankruptcy figures continued to drop in 2007, but the decline is less sharp than in 2006. The decrease is 3 percent for the 15 states that were EU-member before 2004, and 0.7 percent for the entire European Union
  • Results vary a lot between European countries: Germany shows a sharp decrease of 10 percent, while France shows a sharp rise in bankruptcies
  • Differences in bankruptcy legislation make it hard to compare cases between countries. For example, low bankruptcy figures in Eastern European countries may result from a poor legislation or enforcement thereof.

To conclude: the European market as a whole is less insolvent than the year before, but large differences and insecurities remain. (Source: Graydon Belgium)
